I don't know where my heart is!
I lost it somewhere along the way
In a journey searching for you.
I think I dropped it in dirt and clay.
Can I cleanse it? I'm not sure.
It was already so dank and soiled,
I was searching for your water,
Almost holy, pure, to be washed in, boiled.
I saw my heart in your hands,
That was the last place it was seen;
Your fist opened, then your fingers spread
And it fell in slow motion - a twisted dream.
I am clawing through the dirt,
My hands soaked with mud and pain,
And you left before it hit the ground -
Will I see either of you again?
My chest is now an empty void,
My arms aching with the loss,
I cannot have one without the other,
My heart now covered in moss,
From years of being misused,
Beaten and thrown away,
It has given up, lies dormant
And every breath brings me closer to the day
When you scrape away the earth
And lift my heart from the ground.
For the day you find your love again
Will be the day my heart will be found.
