The Father of Rats
Since the theft of the rod, Felix had been feeling very awful, uncoordinated, and miserable. The money he made from the sale of the rod to Maxwell was even stolen by an unknown person. His dreams in recent times had been very bad and he could not explain it. It was just like the rod was still tormenting him. One day, he sat on the couch to take fresh air outside the house. He found himself in a strange gathering. He was accused of stealing by some people. He did not recognize his accusers.
"Return what you have stolen!" Said these unknown persons.
" I am not a thief," he replied them.
"What about the rod?" They asked.
"I have disposed it. It's no longer with me," he replied.
Watching the events from afar was another man that had the face and carriage of a rat. This man who had no business with the gathering, walked to Felix and his interrogators and began to ask them questions that were not related to what they were doing at that spot. They answered the old man but he was still not satisfied.
"Have you seen a rat plundering a bag of beans before?" The Old Man asked Felix.
No one knew what this old man was up to but they looked at each other.
"Yes. I have seen such rats before," said Felix.
"Truly? You have seen such rats before?" Asked the man again.
"Yes. I have seen them," he answered again.
"Do you know how they move their mouths?" Asked the old man.
"Yes. I know how they move their mouths," said Felix.
"That's how your mouth moves and you look like one of my rats," said the old man.
What a strange man! Everyone laughed as the man walked away. Felix woke to reality. With that kind of a dream in the daytime, he did not know what to do again. He ran to a church nearby that evening for spiritual help. He met one of the church members and narrated all that he had been going through in the past few days. But he did not talk about the rod. The churchman however told him that he was lucky to have come at a time they had a pastor that has power to carry out exorcism and that there would be a night vigil that night. Those who had spiritual problems would be able to present their problems before the pastor that night.
Two hours later, Felix was back at the church when they were about to begin their vigil.
The whole atmosphere in the church was charged with singing, clapping and dancing. The pastor was also singing and dancing with the congregation that gathered. The pastor later prayed with them. Everything went on normally until one young lady looked in the direction of the pastor and asked him to shut up. It was an abomination. The congregation was startled. They looked in the direction of the lady and thought she was possessed by a demon. Truly, this lady was possessed. Before the pastor's assistants got to her, the lady fled. She was pursued by those who could. This lady actually escaped from the church. Three men from the church chased her. She was caught and taken back to the church.
The lady was taken straight to the pastor in front of the church. Two women followed her as they carried her to the church. One of the women said that she was her child while the other lady said that she was her senior sister.
"She is possessed by something we do not know," said her mother.
"That was why we brought her here," said her sister.
"We will appreciate whatever you can do for us to heal her," said her mother.
"Leave her alone. Just surround her," said the pastor.
The lady was placed on the table. She looked at everyone present and barked at them like a dog.
"Leave me alone!" she screamed at them.
"I ask you to keep quiet!" Said the pastor.
"Shut up! Who are you to give me orders?" Screamed the lady at the pastor.
"I ask you to keep quiet in the name of Jesus!" Commanded the pastor.
"That's what I do not want to hear. We don't call that name in our club," said the lady as she kicked everyone in her sight.
"I ask you to keep quiet in the name of Jesus Christ!" Screamed the pastor again.
The lady could not tolerate the pastor and those present. She ran to a nearby pole and began to twist round the pole. Everyone watched in amazement as she turned around the pole.
"She is hunted by the spirit of a snake," said the pastor.
Felix watched the whole event from a corner and wondered if the pastor would be able to solve his own spiritual problem with the unfolding drama. He kept thinking in his mind that everyone seemed to have different, unimaginable, and unbelievable problems. His mind flashed back to the day he began to plunder the artifacts in his father's palace. He had fun and money all these years before stealing the rod that torments people. But he still did not known what to do to get to the pastor. He wondered how to tell him his problems.
A bottle that contained some sanctified water was brought and sprinkled on this lady. She screamed and kicked everyone near her. She hung to the pole she was climbing like a snake. Every time they sprinkled the water on her, she either screamed or barked. All of a sudden, this lady calmed down and descended from the pole as if she was not the same person that was barking like a dog earlier. The church congregation began dancing and singing. While this was going on, there was a crash on the roof of the church. The congregation thought it was a small aircraft. They were very scared and they fled in different directions before they discovered that it was not an aircraft but a woman!
The elders of the church and the pastor rushed to the spot. They found out that what crashed on their church was a middle aged woman.
"Who are you?" They asked her.
"I am very sorry," said the woman to the amazement of everyone.
"Who are you?" They asked her again.
"I am very sorry. I was just passing through," She said.
"Passing through where? But you dropped from the sky!' They asked.
"Yes I did. But I was just passing through," she explained.
"Tell us, who are you?" Asked the elders again.
"We are four in number and were just passing through this place and unfortunately my radar network failed," explained the lady.
"This is really strange. You have not explained anything to us. You need to shed more light," explained one of the elders.
"We were on a nocturnal flight and I dropped from the sky unexpectedly," said the woman to the amazenment of everyone.
"It was God that clipped your wings and you dropped," said one of the elders.
"Where are your counterparts?" They asked her.
"They have gone," she said.
With the turn of events, Felix knew that the pastor would not be able to see him that day. He went to the pastor's assistant that he saw earlier and the man explained to him to bear with the church because there were more delicate and important cases. He was asked to visit the following day or any other time. The church later took the woman that crashed on the church's building and destroyed the roof and the one that was just exorcised to the vestry for questioning. The news of the crash soon spread round the city. Many people did not believe it.
Many scientists in the city said it was a lie. In the morning, many people including the media converged at the premises of the church to interview eyewitnesses. The church however kept the woman away from prying eyes. But they decided to hand her over to the authorities. She was later charged to court for unlawful entry during a nocturnal flight and crashing into another man's property. Few days later, Felix returned to the church. But he was unable to see anyone.
