The Psychic Torments
The relationship between Joseph and Jane had become strained. Although they heard all that happened about the woman that crashed from the sky, they were more concerned about what took place in their home. Joyce, Jane's friend finally convinced her that the only way out was to visit Buffalo to use his awesome powers to solve the problems. The two women went to Buffalo in his courtyard in the outskirts of the city. About the same time, some officials of the government came to visit the priest. Because of the caliber of the government functionaries, the two women who came first were asked to excuse them. They waited outside. The government officials narrated what brought them to Buffalo. The government, according to them had two problems. First, they were to host a visiting Head of State from another powerful country in Europe and they would not want it to rain on that day. They wanted the ceremony to go on smoothly without rainfall that would drive people away and prevent them from waving to the visiting head of the foreign country along the streets.
"Please do all that is possible to hold the rain during the visit," pleaded the government officials.
'That is no problem," boasted Buffalo.
"The government will appreciate your effort. We will also pay," said the officials.
"I will do it for you. Last year, about the same period, I held the rain up in the sky for those who were constructing houses. Not one drop fell until they completed their houses. The day they finished, it was as if the angels guarding the clouds got angry. The rain poured down heavily, destroying things that were not strong. I will hold the rain during the visit," Buffalo promised.
"Thank you very much," said the officials.
"When exactly is the visit?" asked Buffalo.
"It's a month's time," they answered him.
"That's alright. Just remind me four days to the time and it will be done. I will begin to prepare the rudiments for the job," he said.
The two officials thanked him and paid an advance fee before departing. After the exit of the two men, Jane and Joyce were ushered in again to see Buffalo. They now had enough time to discuss their own problems.
"Did you say that your husband's eyes always rove about?" Asked Buffalo to confirm what he has just been told.
"Yes. Anytime he sees women, his eyes will be roving like the headlamps of a sport's car," answered Joyce on behalf of Jane.
"Please help me to curb his excesses and romance with women," pleaded Jane.
"Don't worry. I will do everything that I can and his eyes will not rove again," said Buffalo as he went to a corner of his room and returned with a gourd he picked from there.
"Who prepares your husband's meals?" Asked Buffalo
"I prepare his meals," answered Jane.
"Are you sure?" Asked the priest.
"Yes. I prepare his food," she confirmed.
"That is good then. You will be in a better position to do what I want you to do," said Buffalo as he gave her the gourd.
"There is a powerful powder in this gourd. As small as it is, it is very powerful and I have used it to assist many distressed women like you. Just put the powder in his food and stir it very well. Let him eat the food. Do not eat with him and make sure no one else eats with him. Wait and see what will be his reaction within few days. The man will love you so much," promised Buffalo.
The women paid for the medicinal powder and left. That evening when she was cooking, she put the powder from the gourd into the food. Joseph, her husband returned later from work. He was very tired and hungry. He asked for his food and she quickly took the meal she had put the powder to him. Joseph ate the food and went to bed after cracking few jokes with her. As he was sleeping, Jane imagined in her mind that Joseph was going to change and be a different person from that day. What she did not know was that she was just crying wolf when there was none. Joseph loved her and she needed no priest to make love portion for her.
Three days after, Loyo, the thief took possession of the bulletproof talisman from Buffalo. He could not hide his joy and happiness from his other friends. He informed them that he has acquired such a talisman. But he did not reveal the identity of the man who gave it to him. He told his colleagues that he had a talisman that would bounce bullets away from his body. His friends were very excited. They pleaded with him that he would allow them to use his talisman. One of them curiously asked him if he had tested the talisman.
"How will I test it?" Asked Loyo.
"We will go and raid some neighborhoods where they have goats, seize a goat, put the talisman around the goat and shoot it to test the efficacy," suggested Agama.
The robbers then raided some farms and got a goat that they wanted to use to test if the bulletproof talisman would work. They dragged the goat with a rope to a bush and tied it around a tree without any intruder prying into what they were doing. One of them brought out a gun, and walked a distance from the goat. He fired a shot. It was fatal. The bullet tore the goat to pieces.
"Oh my God! This is outrageous," said Agama.
"This is unbelievable. Is this what could have happened to me?" Asked Loyo.
"The priest had given you a dummy talisman," said Agama.
Loyo did not reveal the identity of the priest.
"I am going to confront the man," he said.
"You better leave the man alone. Such people are very dangerous and wicked when they know you have debunked their claims," they advised him.
They left the body of the goat and walked home with disappointment. But Loyo was grateful that it was not his own body that was blasted by the bullet. One of the guys reminded others about the rituals they carried out at Buffalo's place with Whirlwind, their master. He wondered if they would ever work.
The following day, something happened at Joseph's house. Without really knowing what possessed him, Joseph called his wife, Jane and gave her instructions that he would want her to move out of the house at once.
"I do not want to set my eyes on you in my life again!" He barked at her.
"What is the problem?" Asked Jane.
"I hate you. Now get out!" He barked again "This relationship is over and I want you to get out of my life before I kill you."
Before she realized what was going on, Joseph went into his room and picked his gun. He shot some of their properties. Then she knew that he was serious. He aimed the gun at her and she fled. He ran after her shooting indiscriminately. When he could not get her, he went to a river that was close to their house. At the bank of the river, he saw three demons standing and giving him instructions.
"Jump into the river and kill yourself!" Ordered the demons.
"What did you say?" Asked Joseph.
"Just jump into the river and do not question us!" Ordered the demons.
Their power was too overwhelming for Joseph. He looked at them helplessly. Then he saw the image of Buffalo in the middle of the three demons.
"Jump into the river and kill yourself," they ordered again.
"You have eaten the love powder I gave your wife. What I gave her was not a love portion but what will make you to hate her," said Buffalo.
"Now you are in our dragnet," said the three creatures.
"Now, my powerful demons that executes my orders, make him to obey the suicide orders like a robot," ordered Buffalo.
The demons moved closer to Joseph and began to touch his body. They sang and danced around him and later told him to drown in the river. Joseph looked at them and he was confused. He did not know what to do. He jumped into the river and killed himself. The demons danced and sang gleefully afterwards to rejoice that he had committed suicide. Buffalo went to the demons and shook their hands.
"Thank you for helping me. His beautiful wife came to me to ask for love portion. I like her. And I gave her the portion that will make her like me and make her husband hate her," said Buffalo.
Before it was discovered that Joseph committed suicide, Jane had gone to Buffalo to brief him once again and seek his assistance. She did not know that he actually gave her the medicinal powder that would make her husband hate her. Buffalo again lied to her that there was one more thing that he would have to do to stop her husband. Unknown to the woman, the man had killed himself in another part of the city. Buffalo lied that if he slept with her, the whole problem would be over.
She agreed and slept with him. About an hour later, she returned home and found that her husband had drowned in a river.
It was that same night that Agama planned to travel with Maxwell's stolen passport. He did not tell any of his friends and Whirlwind his boss that he was traveling. He carried his suitcase and went to the airport. He used the charm that Buffalo said was capable of making him pass through the checking counters at the airport with the documents without questions from immigration officers and customs. There were many passengers at the airport that day wishing to travel but this pressure did not deter the security men from doing their duties diligently. They checked the passenger's documents carefully. Before going for his boarding pass, Agama sat a corner of the airport looking at many events as they unfolded before him. The pendant that Buffalo gave him was around his neck. He walked towards the checking counter. He pretended to be an official. He walked pass the airport officials. He moved a little bit and raised his leg trying to carry out the orders given to him by Buffalo. No one saw him as he walked on and he was very happy with himself. The officials thought that he was a staff on duty at the airport. They did not ask him any question. He was very happy that everything went on smoothly undetected by the airport security. When he got near the airline's last counter before boarding the aircraft, he sat a little bit. The officials have not started to check people into the plane. On the other side of the departure lounge was Maxwell. Inside his bag was the artifact, the rod that Felix had given Hain to sell to him. Maxwell did not know the kind of rod that he bought and was exporting. Maxwell was happy that he was returning to America. He had a collection of artifacts to take home after the collapse of Amanda's company and the expiration of his contract in Buenos.
Hain and John escorted Maxwell to the airport to see him off. They also thought of having more discussions with him and what they intended to do when they travel to the Federal Republic of Atlantis from where they planned to move to the United States.
Shortly after, the airline officials began to allow people to board. Maxwell carried his bag and the rod and boarded the plane. Other passengers began to board. Agama stood up. He raised his legs to make him invisible before walking towards the airline officials. He walked straight towards the aircraft without bothering to hand over his passport and ticket.
"Your documents sir?" Demanded an airline official as Agama tried to slip in as if he was invincible.
He did not answer the man. He thought that they were calling the man walking beside him. He walked on.
"Excuse me sir. Your papers please!" They asked him.
When they realized that he probably pretending, someone followed him and pulled his dress. Agama looked back in amazement. The officials now swarmed on him and began to scrutinize his papers. His breathing came heavily and rapidly. The officials detected that the documents belonged to Maxwell. The officials promptly arrested him and led him away while others boarded the aircraft.
Agama was shocked that he was detected and arrested by the airline officials. He wondered what went wrong at the airline counter when he was walking into the aircraft. He believed strongly that if he could pass through the previous checks undetected by officials at the airport, something must have gone wrong with the talisman that made it lose its potency as he walked towards the final entrance of the plane. He felt that he caused the problem that led to his arrest and that it had nothing to do with Buffalo who did his best for him. Maxwell did not know that his documents have been found and that the man who stole them was at the airport with him while he was traveling that day.
The aircraft took off afterwards with the rod inside Maxwell's bag. As the plane cruised at a high altitude, the crew began to serve the meal and entertain the passengers. While the real entertainment was going on the screen, the unseen one was going on inside Maxwell's bag. This was carried out by the little demons residing inside the rod. No one heard or saw them. The demons spoke amongst themselves taking some crucial decisions inside the bag.
"Are you saying that we should not strike now?" Asked one of the Demons.
"Yes. I am suggesting that we should not strike now," said another.
"Why are you giving this suggestion?" Asked the other Demon.
"Because we need to take our time. This is not the right time to strike," said a Demon.
"Why did you say so?" Asked the second Demon.
"Truly, I also know that this is not the right time to strike," said the Head of the Demons.
"Are you sure that the right time will come?" Asked one of the Demons.
"Yes. I'm very sure that the time will come in future," said the Head of the Demons as the plane cruised on.
The passengers did not know what was going on inside the bag of one of the travelers.
Maxwell landed safely after several hours of flight. His family was very happy that he returned home. He brought out the souvenir he had bought while he was abroad and displayed them in his sitting room. At a corner in the sitting room was the rod. Sometimes when there was a very important function for him to attend in the city he would take the rod along with him to these places. Unknown to him, the demons in the rod were rejoicing that he was showing them places.
Maxwell was still unaware that he was carrying demons. Demons too also like to network like human beings and be able to carry out some nefarious duties. Gradually, these new demons were studying the city that they found themselves so that they would be able to mix freely.
