The Pregnancy Emails

Email 2

EMAIL TO: [All in Address Book]
SUBJECT:Pregnancy Update #2

Hello again friends and family!

Here we are again, and at Week 14 of my pregnancy. And here I thought no-one would be interested, but I got a huge amount of email responses from the first Update which mainly included well wishes and comments on people's own experiences. I also got comments from those friends without kids, which went something along the lines of "Thank you, you have convinced me NEVER to do it, and have provided me with ammunition if my husband every tries to talk me into doing it!" - LOL. I help where I can, consider this a community service. Just wait until a couple of months down the track, that will REALLY turn you off!

Okay, let's start off by seeing what the text books say ... then I'll tell you if they're right:

Super Susan says: Will start to feel more energetic. Go out and buy a good bra.

I say: Firstly, stop nagging me about bras. Secondly, I would feel more energetic if it wasn't 34 degrees Celsius! While I'm sure other pregnant women are leaping tall buildings, etc, I'll conserve my energy for eating.

Maureen the Maestro says: More stuff about energy and bras. Oh, and that my uterus is the size of a grapefruit. (I say: I'll have to take her word on that.) The baby is formed and is having a nice holiday in there. (I say: Wish I could join him.)

I was able to get out of having a scan for another few weeks, which is just peachy as no-one likes drinking gallons of water than sitting around doing nothing for long periods of time. Though I did hear his heartbeat a couple of weeks ago, so it's reassuring to know I'm not getting fat for no reason.

Yes I am starting to show already, though I am still at the stage where I can manage to suck it in if I need to - sort of like a middle aged man, sans hair loss problems. No problem with clothes (or bras for that matter, thank you very much), so that's great too. I do have the feeling though, as my mother threatened, that I will get bigger quicker with this one. And I thought she was just trying to scare me. Damn! I thought this one would be like the first one, and I could just breeze through it without showing until the seventh month.

So now we concentrate on the lovely second trimester - particularly now the hot weather is slowly subsiding, which made the first few months pretty horrid. This means basically being able to enjoy life without PMT, and being able to eat and eat and eat - pregnancy is a fabulous way of being able to pick anything you want in the supermarket without the other half whinging too much (despite whether they are actually cravings or not! LOL. Oops, mental note: delete that before my husband reads this email). And of course revelling in being able to do more than feel sick and lie down on the couch every five seconds (as I was doing in the first trimester), but using it as a sly excuse to be lazy! Hey, who is going to argue with a pregnant woman? I love the second trimester.

That about does it for now. I have 26 weeks to go (unless this one decides to pop out a bit early which, by that stage, probably won't bother me at all) so I won't gross you out too early. Shall return in Week 20 with scan news and a bigger belly.
