Part Two
Scene Three
| The following day. The six chiefs gathered in the Kings palace. |
| KING
ABIPA: |
(As usual, on his throne) The path never blocks for one who owns a cutlass. The road will not beat
you. The Almighty will clear all obstacles as you embark on this historic
mission. Your names will forever be remembered. |
| BBONI: |
On behalf of my colleagues, I salute you my lord. I assure
you that when the snail’s mouth comes into contact with salt, it signs
the death warrant. We’ll go and find out what’s restricting our
movement. (Background, the Ologbo plays his flute,
while Loko one of the hunters recites his incantations). |
| ALEGBATI: |
We shall detect what’s actually wrong. If it’s the
vengeance of our fathers we’ll know. |
| OLORI: |
May the gods protect you. My heart will be with
you…motherhood shall guide you to and fro. |
| BONI: |
Comrades, let move. |
| There’s bata sound. Dancing resumes. The King looks on adoringly with doubts on his
mind. They dance slowly until they reach the exit. The king, Olori and
Ologbo wave. |
| The hunters wave and
finally depart. |
