Revenge
The vampire slowly emerged from the shadows he had hidden in. The vampire was handsome with shoulder length blond hair and boyish features. His body was strong and well built. The vampire was dressed in blue jeans and a black dress shirt. He smelt of cider.
John took all this information in, in a matter of seconds. The lawyer had no idea how he was going to get rid of the handsome monster. John didn't have matches, nor did he have a weapon of any sort. He cursed himself for being so stupid. His sister had warned him that vampires did exist. Why hadn't John been more prepared?
The vampire seemed to sense his anguish and chuckled exposing his sharp eyeteeth, which were extending by the second. "Are you frightened boy? Am I your worse nightmare? Do you know what I am?"
"You're a vampire! Stay away from her. I won't let you near!" John somehow found his voice and tried to look as mean as he could. Cindy still lay crumpled at his feet, and her moaning had stopped. He wasn't sure if she was even conscious. "What have you done to her?"
The blond-haired vampire howled in amusement. "Look at you protecting this sleaze. Look how she dresses; do you think she is worthy of your attention? Back away mortal, I have already had my way with her. She is no longer one of your kind. She belongs to me now!"
John sucked in his breath. Cindy was slowly becoming a vampire just like his sister. The lawyer's mind clicked. This vampire was probably the same one that had killed his sister. John needed to be sure.
"Cindy is going to be a vampire like you? Maybe she'll survive. How do you know that she wants to be a vampire, maybe the human in her will win? Maybe she won't be a vampire - how can you know?!" The fear that he originally felt had now been replaced by anger. This vampire had twice come into John's life and changed it. The lawyer was tired of being a victim and if he got out of this situation alive, he vowed that he would forever hunt and kill all vampires. The first vampire he would start with would be this one. John vowed that he would avenge his sister even if it meant the lawyer's death.
"Oh, little brave human. Do you not think I can read your mind? Do you not think I know the little plan that's brewing in your mind? I'm not going to give you the satisfaction of knowing what I know. Now get out of my way." The blond vampire moved towards John and grabbed him. The lawyer was surprised by how little effort it took the vampire to lift him up over his blond head. "Now it's time for you to die!" The vampire swung John and then released him. John sailed through the air until he reached the opening of the alley. His body hit a lamppost, intense pain filled the lawyer quickly and then there was darkness.
Sarah's eyes snapped open. She sat up quickly. "John's in trouble."
The keen was in a dark room lit only with candles. She could not tell if it was Trinya's room.
Quickly she climbed off the bed she was on and rushed to the door. Sarah had the location in her mind of where John laid crumpled on the pavement.
The girl whipped open the door and ran into the hallway. She looked around confused. Her mind didn't seem to be as fresh and sharp as she wanted it to be. John had little time before he would die. Sarah was not sure how she felt the connection to him, but she was glad for this power. She could be his silent protector.
Choosing to go left, she ran down the hallway. A long ramp led up from the level she was on. Up was probably the way out. Sarah hurried up the ramp. Reaching the top, she saw that she was in a long hallway. Again she had to choose. Sarah went to the right where the hallway ended and opened up into a bar of some kind. Right now the bar was empty and the lights were dim.
Rushing across the room, she reached the front door. Sarah had just put her hand around the doorknob, when she felt a voice in her head.
STOP. The voice commanded. STOP AND BACK AWAY FROM THE DOOR!
Confused, Sarah did as the voice instructed. The girl slowly turned around and saw a tall thin woman standing near the hallway where the girl had just ran from. The woman looked intimidating with her jet-black hair flowing freely and her pale skin glowing in the darkness.
Where are you going Sarah? Sarina asked gentle now.
"My brother, he is in trouble. He ran into Garath and I need to go save him before he dies. Who are you?"
I am Sarina. The woman said in Sarah's mind. Now Sarah my child you must not be so hasty. We had to interrupt our council to stop you from leaving.
"Why? Do you not want John to live? I must save him that's why I had to the vision."
Did you? Sarina's brown eyes darkened. Did you have a vision or did someone send it to you. Someone who wanted you to rush outside and die. Perhaps Garath sent you the vision.
Sarah was confused. She remembered she had been dreaming about when she was a little girl. In the dream she had been reliving her favorite day. Her dream was about the day where she had gotten the part for the lead in the Nutcracker. The girl had just found out and was running home to tell her mother, when suddenly John had popped into her mind; John, and the fact that he was in trouble. Sarah had seen the whole thing, John standing up to Garath trying to protect some girl, and Garath tossing John across the alley like he weighed nothing more than a feather.
"Perhaps he did place it in my head." Sarah said. "Why would he do that? What harm would come from me rushing to my brother's aid?"
Sarina moved closer to the girl. The tall woman looked down at Sarah almost in pity.
My child, you are young and naïve. Do you know what time of day it is?
"I'm not really sure. All the windows are boarded up. What's that matter?" Then it slowly dawned on Sarah. It was daylight out. Garath had sent her the vision knowing that she would rush to help her brother without a moment's hesitation. The girl would rush out to her death and burn up in the sunlight.
It is not daylight yet. Sarina said in Sarah's head. But it will be very quickly. The sun is already rising. I fear that Garath is a lot trickier than we had originally suspected. I am sorry if your brother is in danger, but by you dying, you are not helping him. Sarina waved her hand towards Sarah.
Come my young one, it's time you came to the council and learned what really is going on.
