The Dark Secret, Part 18
by Tracey Sands

The Queen

The end was drawing close. Hayer could feel his old bones pulsing with life and excitement. Sarnia had been sent back to Egypt. The mute elder had defied him, and he had had enough of her disobedience. She would still control her sect in Egypt, but no more would she be welcome in Canada.

"Hayer, do you have a moment?" Trinya the tiny elder stood in the doorway.

The elder looked at the woman and felt his heart pound more furiously. Her blond hair was down and had slight curls on the ends. Her blue eyes sparkled with a passion only she knew the source. "Of course Trinya. Speak away."

"I think you were a little cruel in your treatment of Sarnia. I know that she threatened your authority, but did she really have to be sent back to Egypt?"

Hayer nodded. Trinya was always faithful and loyal. "I understand your concern Trinya, but Sarnia is not the elder you once knew. She has become hardened and mistrustful during her rein in Egypt. I'm afraid there wasn't much love or compassion inside her. I feared keeping her around would alter the course of things. I know that my helping out Sarah and John seemed irrational, but things are on course - we are near the end of our era. I just want to give Sarah and John a fair chance since Garath is being extremely unfair."

The tiny elder stood in the doorway silent for a while. "I guess I hadn't looked at it that way. As usual you are the wise one." She bowed her head and turned away.

"Trinya?" Hayer called.

"Yes." She said turning her head, as she did her long blond hair flicked over her shoulder making her look extremely vulnerable.

"I think we need to talk."

"What about?"

"Our feelings for each other."

Hayer watched as Trinya's pale face flushed with crimson colour. He felt the urge inside her to flee, but she stood by the door, her hands dug into the doorframes. This was obviously a discussion she didn't want to have.

Sipping on a cold beer, John's hand shook. Vinny had squealed about everything. John now knew where Garath's lair was, his cell phone number and the name of his new queen, Misty. What had really upset the lawyer was Garath's obsession with Sarah. Apparently the vampire was consumed by his need to either kill Sarah or have her by his side.

"You're upset, aren't you?" Detective Higgins said. They were still sitting in the living room and had decided to tie Vinny, the vampire up. It wouldn't do to have Vinny running on the loose and alerting Garath of what they knew. Finally they had the upper hand.

"Garath will be suspicious if I don't check in." Vinny whined from the floor where he was bound. "I call him quite frequently."

"Don't be a fool. Garath is enjoying his time with his new queen. I'm sure you're the last thing on his mind." Alex Fields, Higgins's partner and loyal friend said. "Geez you think we were born yesterday or what? We're cops, not idiots."

John took another sip of his beer; he wasn't sure what he should do. He knew where he had to go, but was he man enough to do it?

The three vampires advanced towards her slowly. Sarah faintly heard the elders in her mind telling her they believed in her, and she had the power.

Hayer's voice suddenly spoke in her mind. She heard it loud and clear. My dear you just have to believe in yourself. We are all watching and supporting you. You can do it Sarah. Remember, your brother needs you.

The confidence and love she felt from Hayer soared her to new heights. The first vampire to approach her was a blond with shaggy hair. She looked at him and bit her lip. Time to find out what kind of power and strength she had. The keen knew that she had to fight them one on one. She couldn't fight all three at once. Sarah would have to run. Bending her knees, she jumped up. The girl was hoping she could jump high enough to land on a building roof. She hadn't actually tried it, but Sarah had seen Garath do it.

Her legs moved off the pavement with a large burst of speed and momentum. She leaped high past the roofs of the closest buildings. Apparently the girl did not know her own strength. Sarah sidestepped in the air until she was over one of the buildings. In seconds she was coming back down. Gently her feet hit the ground of the roof. The girl ran and peered over the edge. The three vampires were still down there wondering what they should do. Sarah suddenly realized she didn't have to fight them at all; she could easily outrun them.

Not waiting a moment longer she sprinted across the buildings. Sarah enjoyed leaping across buildings, and this would definately get her to her brothers faster. "Don't worry John, I'm coming." She whispered.

Garath entered his regal chambers and saw his beautiful queen still sprawled out on the bed. He moaned in delight. Every time he saw her she become more gorgeous. The turn had gone well and had really brought the beauty out of her.

Gently he shook her. "Misty, my queen it is time to wake up and take your throne."

The goddess moaned, and her eyes flickered open. Her eyes had become an intense emerald green color. "You!" She managed to say.

Garath laughed. "Ah, yes you remember me. I have made you an immortal. You will learn to thank me later for it, and now it is time for you to feed. I have brought you a gift."

The vampire clapped his hands twice and watched as one of his underlings brought in a small toddler. Garath was amused watching the underling drag the little boy to his queen.

"Here you go my Lord." He said and bowed to Garath.

The young vampire stood up and approached the small child. "Are you ready to be eaten?" He laughed merrily. The child whimpered frightened.

Garath pulled the child towards the four-post bed. On each post was a set of handcuffs. Garath quickly handcuffed the little boy to the bed. He glanced at his queen who was also handcuffed to the bed. The two would not be going anywhere. He glanced back at Misty. "I know that you think sucking blood is disgusting. I guess it is, but eventually the need will consume you, and you will need to satisfy it. I have chosen you the freshest, sweetest blood for your first time - a child."

He watched as his queen looked at him in shock and then in disgust. "I don't know what kind of sick thing that you are, but I will never harm this child."

Garath laughed again. "We shall see. Misty, my queen, the hunger will drive you mad until you satisfy it. I won't force you to suck the life out of the boy. That will be up to you. I have work to do, so I take my leave my queen." He blew a kiss towards her. Garath snickered as she tried to spit at him. Once she fed she would be easier to reason with. For now she didn't understand that she was a vampire and no longer mortal.

"Sneed," Garath called to his underling who was just staring at the child and drooling.

"Yes my lord." The underling said whipping his head towards Garath.

"Have you heard from Vinny?"

"No my lord he hasn't called in over three hours. It's very unlike him. He likes to call and complain a lot."

"Yes, that is strange. Be on your guard; make sure that the lair is secure. I don't want any surprises. My queen needs to have her feeding without pressure or anxiety. I have a feeling that the elders and their mortal friends are up to something." Garath smiled at the underling. "Soon we will know what that is, and the battle will finally begin. Then I shall be King of all Vampires."
