United
Sarah sat on her bed. Her legs where clenched up tight
to her chest with her arms encircling them. The girl felt sad, alone and afraid. She was not alive anymore. The reality of that was more than she could
bear.
Hayer and the elders wanted so much out of her. They
claimed she going to be important very soon. Well Sarah didn’t feel important,
she missed her friends and her brother.
John appeared in her mind. Her brother was standing
outside of a police station wearing a rumpled dark suit. He looked haggard and
worn. The girl forgot all her troubles and her heart went out to her brother.
John I need you. The words just floated out of
her mouth and silently traveled to John. She watched her brother amused, as he
looked all around him. Her powers were slowly immerging; with every new one she
discovered Sarah grew excited. If there was something positive about being a
vampire that was it.
The girl watched John open his mouth and talk to her.
The keen could hear it without her mortal brother speaking out loud. “Sarah is
that you? How is this possible?”
Seeing John made her smile for the first time in a
long while. Sarah at least had John still; she let him in on her secret. I’ll
explain later. Please just come to where I am.
The girl watched her brother hesitate for only a
moment, and then he started down the street. Sarah didn’t have to speak the
directions; it was almost like they had the same mind. The emotions and images
that passed between her and her brother was beyond anything she could imagine.
Sarah was not sure what was happening, but for what seemed like an eternity, her
brother and her were one.
He had been stalking this pretty woman for a few
nights now.
He was very patient and waited for the tall, blond to
leave the office building that she worked at. For this special woman he would
have to strike in a public area. Garath had caught a glimpse of her at a
nightclub. The second he saw her he knew he wanted her at his side. This would
be his queen. At last he had found his partner in life.
Garath was doing well building his army. And so far
there had been no interference from the elders. He was not sure whether to be
thrilled or worried about that. The vampire had expected resistance by now.
Especially when he started converting some of the old blood vampires. But the
elders were silent.
Shaking his head Garath concentrated on the blond. She
had just exited the building and was entering the parking lot. This was where he
had to strike. The woman gave him no other opportunities she always went
straight home.
His fingers began to tingle and a smile crept across
his face. It was almost feeding time. Soon he would have his sharp teeth digging
into her soft skin. The taste of her was only moments away.
Moving fast he hit her. Hard. She was standing at her
car with the key in the door. Garath silently glided to her and put his hand
over her mouth and dragged her back into the shadows. Carrying her he moved fast
out of the parking lot. He was just a blur now to any humans that happened to
glance his way.
He reached the dark alley across from the parking lot.
Moving quickly he flew down the alleyway until he was four blocks away, and at
an abandoned building. He had scoped out the area the other night. The building
was vacant. Garath was taking no chances with this girl, he wanted her by his
side and he didn’t need any disturbances.
Kicking the door open, he leaped down the stairs. Last
night he had decided on the basement, he would turn her there. The dark basement
was deep in the abandoned building and he was positive there would be no
problems. The basement also, didn’t contain any windows.
Earlier his spy Vinny had phoned with the bad news.
Apparently there was a mortal guy who was going around wiping out vampires.
Vinny only knew of one vampire so far and he died by the sun coming through the
window. Garath wasn’t afraid, but again with this woman he was taking no
risks.
Gently he laid her down on the bed. He had chains
attached to the metal bed frame. It hadn’t taken him much time to get the room
set up the way he wanted. Last night he had robbed a store and had gotten a
heavy metal bed. Carrying it over had been quick and painless. Every day his
power got a little stronger, drinking young fresh blond did that for vampires.
That was their spinach, he thought with a chuckle.
Garath clipped her wrists in the handcuffs. He made
sure the chains that were attached to the cuffs were secure. The woman wasn’t
going anywhere.
The vampire stood down and looked at the woman.
“What is your name? I’ve been wondering about that for a few days?”
The woman looked at him with wide eyes. Garath smiled.
He knew he was attractive, it wouldn’t take him long to win her over. “Come
on, what’s your name? If you don’t tell me I’ll just give you one.”
“M-m-missy.” The woman whispered.
“Ah yes. Missy.” He smiled warmly at her. “Well
Missy we’re about to begin an adventure together. What do you think about
that?”
A few tears ran down the woman’s cheek. “Please
don’t hurt me.”
Garath smiled and leaned in closer to her. “Oh I’m
going to hurt you. But you’ll enjoy it.”
He opened his mouth and sunk his teeth deep into her
soft flesh. This was the part that he relished.
Sarah opened her eyes. She was sitting on her bed
still. The knowledge she had learned about John was thrilling. She had
experienced his whole life, every feeling, and every emotion.
“Amazing isn’t it?”
Sarah glanced across her room and saw a
twenty-something man staring at her.
“Who’re you?” She asked and immediately stood
up.
“Don’t be alarmed.” The man said. He had dark
brown hair that was slicked back. “My name’s Dylan. The elders asked me to
help teach you.”
“Oh.” She groaned and sat back down on the bed.
“That’s all we do around here is it, train?”
The man smiled. “Well what you just experienced with
John was the exercise that Hayer asked you to do earlier. I just helped you do
it a little.”
Sarah looked at him surprised.
“Being a vampire isn’t so bad.”
“No I guess it does have its perks.” The girl
agreed. Perhaps she had been too hasty to judge that being a vampire was a bad
thing. Maybe it was a new beginning.
“Sarah.” A voice called from the doorway. It was
Hayer. “Your brother John has arrived, perhaps you want to greet him and bring
him to the throne room.”
“Is that where you want to meet him?”
“Yes.” The elder said frowning, Hayer did not like
to be questioned.
“Absolutely not. My brother has had an upsetting
enough day. We meet him up in the lounge where it looks nice and normal and
non-threatening. There’s no choice in this Hayer.” Sarah said looking at him
firmly. Sharing John’s thoughts and feelings had given her a new strength and
fierce protectiveness over her brother. He wasn’t as tough as he acted and
just the grief he had shown at her death was enough proof. Her brother was her
best friend and would always be there for her. Sarah was determined to do the
same for John.
“Fine. I’ll tell the elders we’re going to the
lounge. Please go meet him now.”
Sarah smiled and quickly ran past Hayer and up the
hallway to the lounge. She wasn’t sure what the elders wanted with John but
she would protect him if she had to. That was another reason she was glad it was
in the lounge. John could run outside into the daylight and be safe.
