Shadows of Fear -- Part 15
by
Martin H Slusser

“A what? A Mack truck?”

The face only God could love scrunched into an awesome scowl.

Bright with laughter, three pair of golden eyes squinted, and God tried Their collective best not break into uncontrollable hysterics.

Wolf rose from his place at the right side of Sun Father to slap the aka:ki on the shoulder.

“Come on, Two Swords. All is cool. I’m sure the little dude didn’t mean it.”

The Guardian snorted. He squinted at the Wolf. “I thought God wasn’t able to lie.” He rumbled a snort of laughter. “The little creep did mean it, and it ain’t no surprise, Dio’:Dude.”

The Eagle:Woman chuckled, a rich, throaty sound. She hugged Two Swords. Gathering her eagle feather cape around her, she slipped through the clear floor. A whoop of laughter rose back.

The sword in the harness on Two Swords’ back giggled.

The Guardian snarled, “Shut it, Heart’.”

DI:DAN:WA TWO SWORDS. PEACE.

The Guardian sighed. He nodded and booted away a demonic being that had dared to invade the presence on the Dalonega throne. More from the love and compassion directed at it from the throne than from Two Swords’ hoof-sized foot, the very minor imp shrieked and fled.

GO, LITTLE ONE

The Sun Wolf grinned. Only Dad would dare call Two Swords-the-Moose ‘little’ and have the Guardian feel it a love-name. Ol’ aka:ki Two Swords in a rage made the earth shake. Literally.

YOUR YOUNG CHARGE IS UP TO MORE MISCHIEF.

Slapping a hand to his forehead, Two Swords groaned.

“What else is new?”

He roared away in an explosion of light and concern. A man slipped up to the dais. The Sun Wolf smiled a greeting.

Making the hand sign for love to the Sun Father, the man gave a worried frown at Two Swords’ retreating backlash of blue flames.

“Two Swords is one of our best operatives in the field,” the Sun Wolf told Ben Grey. With a quiet, smiling assurance, he added, “If anybody can get your kid safe and keep him that way, Two Swords can.”

A wistful smile on his face, Ben Grey watched the Solar:6 portal flare in the depths of the Forest.

“Man, but I wish I could see him again. You know, face to face, like the first time, nine years ago. Not just be keeping an eye on my hellion.” He grimaced. Ben shook his head. “I want to be there for him. With him, Bro, in the worse way.”

He glanced at the throne. “The Mohawk:Buu still wants him.”

“Owl-dude wants a lot of things. Benny is mine.” The Sun Wolf bared his teeth in a harsh grin. “What is mine, is mine forever.”
