Olusi, Part 7
by Tunde Akingbade

ACT THREE
SCENE TWO

Olusi’s room. He sits down regretting.
OLUSI: (lamenting) Why has this happened to me? Why, why did it happen?
It was as if they cast a spell on me. My head got swollen. I remember I seemed to be following a scent.
Oh! How I wish it never happened. But how did this woman get me? I can’t imagine Ojuri and myself in an embrace.
And I went closer to her. Oh! I cannot remember what happened until father came in.
(Jayin enters with a poisoned - club)
JAYIN: Villain! This is your end. I warned you. The whole of Oyo preferred you to me.
You have behaved like villain. You behaved like a dog. And I shall treat you like a dog suffering from rabies. You are not my son. And I shall treat you like an enemy.
(Opeke appears passing in front of the room. She overhears the conversation and she stops)
OLUSI: Forgive me father. It will not happen again. I was not aware of what happened. Everything that happened was not natural. I only remembered she called. It wasn’t natural. I swear.
(Opeke peeps through the keyhole)
JAYIN: Unnatural?
Did you say unnatural? Did you say that? Villain! What do you mean?
(He clubs him)
Villain! That is what you are.
OLUSI: Please father. Please father, Please. It wasn’t natural. I do believe Ojuri used something on me. And I know that.
JAYIN: You are a dead man. And I’m going to kill you. I can see death in your face. And kill you, I must.
OLUSI: (pleading) Father, please. I swear it won’t happen again. The gods forbid. It will never occur again.
JAYIN: Natural or unnatural, I must kill you. The club is poisoned already. And I’m bent to kill. There is no going back. If I don’t kill you, I will kill myself.
(vomiting) Father, please. Have mercy. Please father I’m begging. Be merciful. Don’t forget that I’m your son. And that....
JAYIN: Who will take a villain for a son? A rebellious son? A treacherous son? A son planning evil for the father?
Death is in your eyes. You are a dead man son.
(Olusi staggers and falls down. He is in a convulsive state).
OLUSI: (his eyes are closing) Father, father,....... F-a-th...
(He dies)
(Jayin certifies that he is dead. He kicks the body and opens the door to leave. But he is startled to meet Opele just outside the door).
OPEKE: I’m just passing by my lord. I did not look. Candidly, I did not intend to watch anything of that nature. I wasn’t watching. I was just passing. Em...em....
JAYIN: (looks at her disgustingly)
Who asked you any question? Who asked you? Foolish woman. Vanish from here or I kill you. Look at her with her duck legs. Idiot (hisses)
(she runs away in astonishment).
JAYIN: I must go quickly and cover everything up before they suspect. They mustn’t know that that stupid son felt through me. Because if they know, that is another trouble to settle with the townspeople.
