Only A Few Days Later
Available for Chat, Part 8
by
Cynthia Piromalli

It was only a few days later, but the hunger came back again. So quickly is it satiated, that it must be fed again. It was unexplainable, but that’s how it was. No point in arguing with it, just comply. Once you cross the line, you can never go back. You need more.

The computer screen flickered to life, and the dial-up started. Adrenalin pulsed through the veins at the thought of finding someone new, of working towards and getting that gratification all over again. As the computer crunched away, nervous fingers lit another cigarette to give the body something to make it feel calm, even though it was just exciting it more.

The chat program loaded. The mouse went over the menu and clicked on the ‘search’ option. The program went through its files to see who was online and available for chat. Nothing came up fast enough, so the mouse pointer went back over the menu and clicked on ‘refine search’. There were a lot more options there, but the mouse pointer found ‘Under 30s’ and clicked on that. Now it was time for patience.

After a few moments and another cigarette, a list came up. It was so hard to tell sometimes if these chatters were male or female by the user names they chose. Sometimes that was half the point of these chat programs: to be able to chat freely with other people by disguising your real identity. Some people changed their user name several times, including killers. Helps not to be traced sometimes, you see.

The mouse went down the list, pausing on each name to contemplate their suitability. At last there was one down towards the bottom of the list that looked like it might be the right one. It was selected, and a message box popped up. Eager hands began typing …

Chatter153: Hi there.
Jess_72: Hey.
Chatter153: Interested in chatting?
Jess_72: Sure, that’s what this thing is for! ;)
Chatter153: Absolutely! Where do u come from?
Jess_72: Sydney.
Chatter153: Me too. R u male or female?
Jess_72: Male.
Chatter153: Thought so, but checking anyway.
Jess_72: What’s ur name, Chatter?
Chatter153: My real name is Lucy. So, how old r u …
