At last!
Available for Chat, Part 3
by
Cynthia Piromalli

David had been sitting at his computer for hours. His eyes were getting sore and he was frustrated at how slow it was. If he had the money he could trade up, but right now that was a pipe dream. He was too out of it to hold a job for any longer than a couple of months. He hated going outside these days - he had done too much, was drinking too much and was getting too paranoid. Only to meet the next one, or for more alcohol and cigarettes, otherwise he wouldn’t go out at all.

He was waiting days for Lucy. Their chat relationship had started off well, but he hadn’t seen her online since and was starting to worry that she was a dead end. Pity. Lucy was a nice name, he was sure she’d be pretty. He surfed around, looked at some adult sites, but was about to give up and go sit in front of the television with a bottle of bourbon when he saw her name come up. At last! He typed in a greeting straight away to get her attention, but it was nearly ten minutes before she responded. At last she did.

Lucy: Hey, how r u going?

Dave: Good. How r u?

Lucy: Ugh, busy! Had heaps of assignments 2 do.

Dave: Wondered why u haven’t been online 4 a while.

Lucy: Yeah sorry, but they r out of the way now, hooray!

Dave: Well done! Is uni over 4 the time being?

Lucy: Yep. Break starts on Friday, got a month off at last.

Dave: What r u doing during break?

Lucy: Sleeping!

Dave: LOL. Going to celebrate the end of term?

Lucy: Absolutely! Going 2 the uni bar 2nite with a few mates.

David pondered how he would answer that, desperately wanting to go so he could meet her. He didn’t want to seem too desperate, though he was. It hadn’t been that long since the last time, but that was already fading fast and he needed a new girl soon. He waited a couple more minutes for her to reply. When she didn’t, he realised he was just going to have to jump right in, but he’d still have to be careful. Even though he was only a couple of chats in with her, he didn’t want to lose her and have to start again.

Dave: Any room 4 1 more?

Lucy: Have u been 2 the uni bar b4?

Dave: Yeah, a while ago now though.

Lucy: Probably hasn’t changed much.

Dave: LOL, probably not.

This time she didn’t respond immediately, and David thought for a moment that he’d blown it. He sat there for five minutes trying to think of something to add when a message popped up from her.

Lucy: You can come if u like. There’s no band 2morrow nite, I just checked, but I’m sure they’ll have music of some kind.

David breathed a sigh of relief. Then the old adrenalin started coming back, flooding his veins and deepening his breaths. He could almost feel her now, between his fingers, feel the blood in her throat pumping as he imagined himself squeezing. His fingers began sweating and it was difficult to type. He had to wait a couple of moments to calm down before he could reply.

Dave: Sounds good. U sure u don’t mind me tagging along?

Lucy: LOL. As long as u don’t mind hanging with some uni students!

Dave: Not at all. So what time?

Lucy: How does 9pm sound?

Dave: My time of night! So what do I look 4?

As she described herself, David sat back and smiled.
