The Brightest Star
in the Sky
by
Kimberly Carson

There is no greater experience in this life than to feel perfectly safe and perfectly loved. When we go out into the world knowing that we are optimally connected to the omniscience of love, we shine more brightly than the sun that sustains this planet. And, we allow others to light their candles at our glow, for love always extends itself. The details of our internal world operate smoothly and peacefully, regardless of the external life situations. That's why we all want love so much and will go to great lengths to ensure our perception of its presence in our life. The tricky part comes in discerning the source of this love, but that's for another column.

The energy patterns that operate in us through planetary forces exist because they can facilitate our healing and that is the purpose of this earthly plane.  Once I learned how to harness and direct the energies of my astrological make-up, I had one more valuable tool to use in the work that I recognized needs to be accomplished. Learning how to do this is relatively simple and requires nothing more than some information, a commitment to healing and listening. You can read all the books available and believe me, I've read loads, and am repeatedly guided to the best place for deepening my understanding of everything and anything in this life. The most useful source, and this should come as no surprise yet still surprises me, is within us. Listen to your body, listen to your energy field, observe your responses and listen to these messages. Our bodies are the most sophisticated communication device known to man and can tell us everything we need to know in order to heal those places in us that are calling to us for healing. Listen to the message of the stars. As always, I am happy to answer any astrological questions you may have: astrohealth@Storiesbyemail.com.  Remember, your will is your life.

In order to release all the barriers to love's coming, we each possess gifts to share and lessons to learn. Memorize the gift and lesson as described for your sun sign and spend a few minutes everyday meditating on the message.  The channels to healing can't help but be cleared. Notice that the lessons we learn are the gifts we bring into the next sign.

We begin with the infant of the zodiac, Aries, whose soul knows the gift it teaches is that love is innocence. Hugh Prather says in The Quiet Answer, ". . . To have any hope of happiness, we must first recognize those times we are afraid of the innocence of others. "The first step in this, Aries, is to know that love is trust. This is your cosmic lesson. In order to trust, we must accept our own innocence and then we will automatically recognize it in others. Think for just one moment how the world might look when we all see only one another's innocence. Wow!

The next stage in our development is with the baby of our beingness and for this we meet Taurus. The gift of the bull is that love is patience. We might shake our heads at the monotonous existence of the cow in the pasture, but do you ever see one with furrowed brows or ulcers? The path to patience, Taurus, is through forgiveness and this is your spiritual lesson: Love is forgiveness. Forgiveness has nothing to do with anyone else and everything to do with our choosing to release our own attachment to our wounds. Imagine for one moment all our relationships being founded on this premise. There would be lots of contended mooing going on!

The child phase of life takes us to Gemini and from this Mercurial energy pattern we are taught that love is awareness. In order to see rightly, we must let our heart and its vision be our guide and for this to occur, the lesson to learn is that love is feeling. We often mistake feeling for emotion, but there is a distinct difference: emotions are the product of our egoic nature and are generally reactionary in form; feeling is the effect of the cause of love which always expresses itself peacefully, passionately and for the highest good of all. Awareness of our feelings means being still, staying quiet and listening. . . so just for a moment, breathe, be still and know.

The adolescent aspect of our journey leads us to the moon ruled sign, Cancer, who teaches that love is devotion. Our sense of devotion can sometimes lead us into the uncomfortable realm of smothering, over-watering, doing for others and mothering the people we love instead of letting them be who they need to be. Thus, the spiritual aspirants with this sun sign get to learn that love is freedom. The greatest gift a mother gives her child is wings to fly through life without her and so it is with those whom Cancer holds dear. . . freedom is the highest form of devotion for it accepts that God doesn't need any help organizing the universe.

Leo, the teenage part of who we get to be, teaches that love is ecstasy. As we surrender to the currents of love's flow, we are submitting to its power and learning that love is humility. We search relentlessly for those experiences that charge our minds, flood our hearts and take us into enchanted realms, often forgetting that it's only when we are totally relaxed, completely taken over by love that our experience, no matter what we're doing, possesses the quality of ecstasy. It's not in anything "out there". . . we already have it. We must simply let it happen in us.

We reach adulthood in Virgo and the gift we bring to this juncture is that love is pure.  Purity comes through emptying our being of toxins (mental and physical), demons and the fear-based thoughts that darken our path.  Nature abhors a vacuum so it immediately goes to work filling us with the love that is meant to live in us and the lesson Virgo learns is that love is fulfilling. Nothing else need reside in us once we give love a home in our lives on a moment by moment basis.

These first six signs are considered the personal doorways to our soul and now we begin the process of evolving in unity with others. The ark is entered two by two.

The marriage of our journey is in Libra who teaches us that love is beauty. Beauty to the ego is quite subjective, but to the universe, our beauty comes forth as we harmonize our energies to its song. The lesson of Libra in love is that love is harmony. Co-operating with others is the key to the divine unions we desire and harmonizing with others is what beautiful music is made from.

The sexual aspect of our beingness is found in Scorpio whose soul gift is that love is passion. Passion is often considered the physical expression of intense love and desire for another, but in its highest state, passion is the manifestation that results from surrendering to our highest Self.  So, Scorpio, your lesson here is that love is surrender. Gibran states that, "God moves in passion and rests in reason. "As we elevate the level of our appetites, we are satiated in a realm that provides nourishment to the soul and from here all desires are gratified.

The development of knowledge takes us to Sagittarius, where the gift that love is honesty lives fully realized. Honesty requires a dedication to truth and it is here that the centaur must learn that love is loyalty. Loyalty to this expansive energy pattern can be mistaken for restriction of expression, but this is not the case, Sag. Loyalty is an allegiance not necessarily to a person, though certainly this is the by-product, but to a set of values and standards that you can present yourself to the world with knowing that people recognize this as honesty.

Capricorn's gift to experience in life is that love is wisdom.  We become the sage of our spiritual journey through the relinquishment of our small self and the task here for Saturn's child is that love is unselfish.  Selflessness may be quite a challenge to this energy pattern, but once the hurdle is past there is no greater love than the peace that wisdom brings to us.  It's calming, centering influence provides a base from which we can give of ourselves in a way we never knew possible. The self that most of us know is not who we are. . . thank God.

In our idealism, we meet Aquarius, whose soul knows the gift that love is tolerance. The tendency for this air sign is to tolerate from a distance, so your lesson, Water Bearer, is that love is Oneness. When we acknowledge the principle that we are all one, this lessens the struggle of this lesson and we let the life force that connects us move through us more freely, knowing that our acceptance of ourselves is the key to oneness with others.

Completing our journey in Pisces, who shares the gift that love is compassion, we complete the cycle of life. This does not mean it ends and no sign understands this more easily than the fish whose symbol is the never ending cycle of life, death and rebirth. The lesson for this energy pattern is that love is all and releasing the joy of compassion is the key to unlocking this mystery. There is no room for martyrdom in true compassion and realizing this will activate the soul's knowing that love is all.

Love is who we are. Releasing ourselves in this knowing is when our stars shine their brightest. Remember, your will is your life.  Next week, we'll take all this love and go behind those doors we mentioned last week!
