Sun Signs at Play
by
Kimberly Carson

The four elements of the planet attributed to the signs of the zodiac are especially revealing when we let these energies come out to play...or fall in love. As we preen our feathers in courtship preparation, naturally we want to emphasize our most attractive features, and as we allow our instincts to guide us we will draw attention to the most magnetic energy we possess...namely, our divine gifts.  Conversely, when our ego is running amok this same element can be seen in its least attractive display. This is best appreciated in the well known adage that the qualities we find charming, silly or cute during courtship are the very same qualities that we will later be ready to exorcise from our beloved's personality.

We are drawn to one another in order to heal. We can join with those we can repeatedly play out old dramas/traumas with for up to many lifetimes if we so choose, or we can elevate our desires and resolve these conflicts. Our will determines our life. If the unhealed in me insists on remaining unhealed and unforgiven, then I will create circumstances and draw people to me who will resonate this decision, regardless of how conscious the decision.  Or I can decide to respond differently to old stimuli and thereby begin a chain of new events and open the door to healing.

There's a lot written about compatibility charts in astrology and they can be helpful when used with the proper perspective. The only perspective that dignifies this cosmic science is one of healing. Parents would be miles ahead of the game to get their child's chart done as early in life as possible in order that they may best understand the potentials and how to encourage them.  Romantic partners with a genuine interest in serving through their relationships will find many paths through the energy patterns of astrology.  Remember, feel free to write me about any astrology question: astrohealth@storiesbyemail.com.

Let's play with a little fire first! Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are the romantics of the zodiac and like the element they embody, their touch can warm, spark, ignite and even engulf you in the flames of their passion.  Don't play with fire unless you're prepared to be scorched, or at the very least, sizzling in the embers of their glow. Fire signs love to be in love and few loners will be found with their sun in one of these signs. I know of a bachelor Leo whose posture changes dramatically when he's courting; he prances proudly through the jungle roaring with ferocity that he is king...until she escapes the pride and then he sulks around gloomily for months. Relating intimately with fire is easier with the males of the signs because of their basic masculine energy patterns. The females can possess rather strong personalities that can be quite consuming. Honesty is a keyword with all fire signs and they tend to be available for encounters of any nature. You can count on a fire sign to stay and fight to the finish! Flowers, romantic dinners and surprises are part and parcel to both genders born with the sun in a fire sign so if you're courting one, be creative and don't hesitate to express romantic gestures of any kind. Your fire sign will glow contentedly and remain loyal, faithful and passionate.

Now, we'll dip into the deep emotional depths of the water signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. These sensitive, creative, quiet dreamers express themselves in love through the emotions that rule them. Don't be fooled by an indifferent or even abrasive facade with any water sign - what you see is not what you get. Usually, however, they save the best of their expressions for more intimate encounters and when they feel safe, secure and free to be themselves, they are the most sensual lovers of the zodiac. They won't waste a lot of verbal energy on meaningless effusions, but give them a quiet space to relax and unwind and you will receive ecstatic experiences that no other energy pattern can compete with. Yes, water tends to be moody, secretive, a bit slippery and not easy to pin down, but when you see how beautiful they swim and dance when they feel free, you will be happy to give them the space they need until they're ready to come up to the surface again with the rest of us air breathing dense bodies.

On the lighter side of romance live the air signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.  Air is a mental energy and everything these sun signs experience is first processed through the intellect. Appeal to their mind and the rest is a shoe-in; lose their intellectual respect and no matter what other attractive qualities you offer they will float on down the path of life without looking back. It's not that they lack emotional substance, it's that they don't expend unnecessary amounts of it for no good reason. Believe me, they can get gloomy and solemn and when they do, provide a meaningful distraction and soon they'll be their cheery selves again. Air signs are social creatures and generally prefer to be involved in group activities or at the very least partnered in a project that captures their interest or holds some humanitarian value. You won't get too far with flattery with this group; you'll get farther if they discover you keep a dictionary handy and have respectable communication skills. Air signs may not top the list of romantics, but you'll never be bored.

For steady, stable and reliable we have our earth signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Now here are the sensible romantics of the zodiac.  Sound like an oxymoron? Not when you understand what you're dealing with in this solid, well grounded realm. The earth signs appreciate anything material, but it must have significant value. A bouquet of flowers that wilt in a week or an overpriced fancy dinner are pointless, but a potted blossoming plant or a cookbook for the two of you to experiment with will gain you more points. Frivolity is not a speed this energy enjoys but beauty, substance and a perfectly balanced checkbook they can relate to easily.  They won't be as impressed with shooting stars as they will a manicured lawn and you can save your pipe dreams for the water signs; bring only well thought out plans to these folks and the steps necessary to attain the goal.  Dig in dirt together or attend a cultural event; sit quietly over a crossword or puzzle and they'll let their raw, primal energies loose later that night. Earthiness has a passion that can be pretty thunderous once its provoked...and once you've provoked it you'll do everything to keep things down right dirty! Don't try actual dirt on the Virgos, however, it will offend their sense of good hygiene (try some mud wrestling with the other two!)

Remember: Your Will Is Your Life. Next week we'll look more intimately at each of the signs and how they express themselves behind closed doors.
