One of the ways that astrology can be useful in day to day interactions is in communications. Each of us has learned tactics for expressing ourselves that we derived from our environment, culture and
families. And each of us has communicative propensities that are inherent in the sun sign under which we are born. Mercury gives us the most information about how we communicate, but having sun sign information can be extremely useful in shaping certain conversations in order to achieve the best results. Don't mistake this for hocusy-pocusy manipulations: intention is everything and the objective is to cultivate effective strategies for dealing with co-workers, neighbors, friends, partners and children and appealing to their highest level of responsiveness. For example, I didn't have a lot of intimate familiarity with Libra until my daughter was born. Reading about the importance of harmony, cooperation and balance in the life of Libra is a very different experience than sharing living quarters, negotiating space and establishing routines with one. We're both air signs, but my changeable Aquarian expresses its airiness a bit differently and while I may be able to shift gears mid-stream, Libra operates better with considerable lead time, a complete understanding of the plan and most factors firmly in place before the start of any venture. Knowing this helps us both and I modify my rhythms in order to provide my daughter with circumstances that best fit her style (whenever possible).
Obviously, reality is rarely custom designed and being adaptable is a spectrum that we all fall into somewhere on the scale. Astrology can be one other resource to employ when dealing with delicate or difficult encounters; or it can simply be a tool one uses in approaching people. A basic understanding of how the elements operate can take you a long way in relating to others. Here are a few examples:
Communicating with Aries: Be prepared to discuss Aries. Keywords for each sign are paramount in understanding how signs operate and with Aries, it's I AM. I AM the center of the universe. Once you realize that this is simply their inherent nature and not egotistical self-centeredness it's easier to brush off the fact that your concerns aren't going to be addressed unless you initiate them. I have a good friend who happens to be a Pisces sun sign, but has strong Arian energy and it is rare that she reciprocates the question, "How are you?" It simply does not occur to Aries to ask about someone else. It's not that they don't care; on the contrary, Aries in your court will give you the uncontestable winning advantage.
Communicating with Taurus: I HAVE. "I HAVE all the knowledge you need in the universe." Be prepared to be instructed frequently whether you've asked or not. A bull is patient, listens well, rarely
interrupts and is slow to anger, but does think highly of its own opinions and will silently record any stated objections for later use. All earth signs have remarkable memories and don't forget this...they won't. Taurus can talk its way out of anything and like it's opposite sign, Scorpio, has an unnerving ability to turn circumstances around to their advantage. Always get your facts straight before encountering Taurus or you'll have them straightened for you.
Communicating with Gemini: Intellectual repartee is an area that Gemini excels and few can keep up with their mental stamina. I THINK for Gemini means they are almost always six thoughts ahead of you, but this doesn't impair their listening ability. Multi tasking in this department of living is what Gemini thrives on throughout the course of most days. A general rule of thumb, however, includes the fact that what Gemini says to you may not always be the consistent story they portray. Remember, their symbol is the Twin: one face pointed one direction and the other pointing another direction. Realize that this is not a fact finding sign, but a mercurial energy whose mission is to send and deliver messages.
Communicating with Cancer: I FEEL pretty much sums up all encounters with this sign. There are a few crusty crabs who've managed to grow a hard shell around themselves, but for the most part this energy pattern responds to feelings. Attempting to draw them out of their emotional shrouds works only by sheer dumb luck and the best course is to give them the time and space to sort through their feelings. Yes, this means that most issues will take a long time to resolve, but it also means that if you want to appeal to Cancer go straight for the heart of the matter. They might side step it a while (a crab moves sideways, never straight forward), but will ultimately respond best when emotions are given prominent consideration.
Communicating with Leo: Just bow and applaud. The king of the zodiac purrs like a kitten when given deferential treatment and will strike with sharpened claws if you step over the royal lines of propriety. Watch any cat interact with another creature and you will soon discover helpful hints. For example, most cat owners take it in stride that their feline companions allow them the privilege of their company...so it tends to be with Leo. Never take them for granted and never accuse them of the same. Heads will roll. I WILL means that their will is what counts and others are considered secondarily at best. Sound a bit arrogant? Perhaps, but they are so delightfully charming that forgiving them is easier than you think
Communicating with Virgo: Semantics rule and guessing drools with the sign whose keyword is, I ANALYZE. Pay close attention to detail and conversations will hum along; slip up on your facts and you will be forever after scrutinized. Remember, the memory of an earth sign is impenetrable. Don't rush Virgo. They tend to be meticulous and methodical and someone has to do it so leave them to it. It is fun to make them blush and as an Aquarian I possess uncanny insights into precisely how much shock value will create this affect. No more, no less...no need for excess. These flesh covered encyclopedias respond best to statistics, can pick up the incidental slack that no one else can even see and will likely grumble through monotonous routines that they truly could not live without. Give them a puzzle and a quiet space and they will solve it 99.9% of the time. They will never say 100% because that would be boasting and Virgo does not boast.
